How To Calculate Your Maid’s Pay In-lieu Of A Weekly Rest Day?

Starting from 1 January 2023, all employers are required to provide their maids at least one rest day each month that cannot be compensated away.

On the other hand, if you and your maid come to an agreement for her to work on the remaining rest days, you must compensate her at least one day’s salary for each rest day she works in addition to her monthly salary.

There are normally 4 weeks and 4 rest days in a month, therefore you may compute one day’s salary by dividing her monthly salary by 26 working days.

For example:

Your Maid’s monthly salary $650.00
Number of rest days not used in a month 2
One day’s salary $650.00 ÷ 26 = $25.00
Compensation for rest days not used $25.00 X 2 = $50.00
You should pay $650.00 + $50.00 = $700.00
